Standing Advisory Councils on Religious Education (SACREs) have their origins in the 1944 Education Act when the government established Local Education Authorities to maintain schools.
One of their responsibilities was to establish a ‘conference’ to produce an agreed syllabus.
North West Surrey Synagogue plays an active part in Surrey Sacre. Supporting the Agreed Syllabus to ensure Judaism as it is lived is taught in local authority schools. Members of the Community help provide resources and training for schools and teachers including, when asked, to Surrey Academies. Along with other activities, we have taken part in both in-person and online question and answer sessions with local secondary schools.
